Creating an Anime template in photoshop - An original tutorial by Richard Isbell

part 4

Step 27

Now an anime image. Have a look over at Google for something suitable. When you have found something you like, (and that doesn't infringe any copyright laws) bring it into photoshop. Now we only need a little piece of it, and a good way to cut something out of an image is to use a quick mask. Selection the paintbrush tool and then press Q on the keyboard. Paint over the part of the image you want. You will notice that everything paints a reddish color. You are not painting! What you are doing is selecting the area you want to cut out:

Step 28

Take your time doing this! When done, press Q again, then click SELECT->INVERSE SELECTION. CRTL+C to copy it then go back to your site template and press CRTL+V. Once it's there press CRTL+T to scale up or down and position:

Step 29

Now let's start on the right panel. This is going to be used for our Google search box and adsense adverts. Create a new layer and rename it right panel. Make a rounded rectangle like so. See the blue line? This is a guide line and very useful it is, too. If you can't see the rulers at the left and the top, press CRTL+R. Once the rulers are in clear view, click and drag the left hand one over to where the header layer finishes. Now click View-and make sure 'Snap' is checked. You should now be able to line up the right hand panel layer with the header layer. You can also see I have given the layer the layer style we saved earlier. That's looks good but I want a solid color here.

Step 30

Click the 'Add layer style' icon and deselect 'Gradient Overlay'. Now select color Overlay and then click the colored rectangle (it's usually red) Using the color picker, click somewhere on the header layer. The right hand panel should now turn that color:

Step 31

Now I want to make a divider. Click and hold the Rectangular Marquee tool until the drop down list appears, then choose 'Single row marquee tool':

Step 32

Now click somewhere toward the top of the right hand panel. A selection line should appear:
